The "Crazy House" built in 1948 for California artist Phil Dike by Warren Leopold who might be considered the father of the California modernism organic style known as "Big Sur" modernism. This house is one of the most avant-garde modernist houses built in the 1940's. The home situated on 8 street to street lots, features one huge bedroom with sitting/work area and bath. Sunken living room with fireplace, and loft for extra sleeping or office. The sloped ceilings and floating roof line provide an unexpected and surrealistic experience. The unique windows and skylights make the house feel like a giant bird's nest or a living sculpture. Details create an interesting visual and tactile experience.
